Thinking outside the box

The importance of appropriate seal packaging

The Industrial Seals Expert published an article at the end of 2021, in which the importance of proper seal storage was highlighted in a neat infographic. This is a topic SKF is continuously passionate about, especially as the conditions in which its products – namely bearings, seals, and lubrication – can lead to premature failure of equipment.

A box-fresh solution

But before products even reach customers, there are certain standards that SKF conforms to regarding how they are branded, packaged, and labeled internally. After all, quality and easily identifiable packaging not only helps to protect parts in transit, but it also establishes consistency and can even, in some cases, prevent counterfeiting.

To that end, SKF has recently introduced a seal packaging solution for single and multi-pack seal distribution. Customers will receive a box featuring a standardized graphic design and the product itself, which is protected in plastic wrapping to further reduce the likelihood of damage or contamination. On top of that, the new box design for power transmission seals includes a QR code and a removable top cover that better enables product handling and shelf usage. Most machined seal solutions and SKF Spectraseals are soon to be distributed in plastic poly bags which provide UV protection.

Based on the recognition of CR Seals, the packaging also comes with a new dual-brand design.

What’s in the box?

As it stands, the following products will be distributed in the newly branded package:

Distribution of the packaging solution is already in effect and stock replenishment began in April 2022. If you have any questions about the new packaging, please get in touch with SKF or leave a comment below and the Industrial Seals Expert will get back to you!
